DAYLIGHT WAS FADING when Dughorm arrived at the cave of the trio. He was led by the little girl called Awerm who, like him, was carrying a large bag of food and drink. They soon laid the feast upon the flat rock at the entrance to the cave. The campfire near the entry of the cave provided enough illumination for the little girl to set out the meal before she left them to return to the village. The old man was in high spirits as they shared the meal of dark bread, fisheel, and a local barkmead that Urith nearly spat out as swill. In deference to his friend, he forced it down while they chatted about their past battles together. Fedelm kept asking the blind warrior about his experiences with the Majireef and seemed particularly interested in his associations.

As they cleared away the remains of their meal, the sun was setting in the east, and twin moons came into view. They moved further into the cave, coming around the fire to go over their plans. Urith explained their plan to sneak into the Citadel and meet with the Overlord as unexpected visitors. The trio believed that by working with Fedelm’s father, they would be able to arrange such a meeting if they lay down their arms. Dughorm listened intently as he puffed on his pipe until they finished telling him about their plan.

Dughorm pulled the pipe from his mouth, his sightless eyes seeming to sparkle in the flickering firelight, “Fedelm, did you have a vision last night?” he asked. Surprised at the question, Fedelm admitted she had no visions.

“Well, that’s not unexpected. I believe a god or two are interfering with the natural order. After you had left, I fell into a deep sleep, which is unusual at my age. My sleep brought me desperate premonitions, with regards to my future. It was the most exciting and unbelievable thing I have felt since my last battle.”

He paused at the memories rushing through his brain. The group listened dumbfounded by the turn of the conversation. Sensing the silent group staring at him, he continued.

“You must be wondering what this has to do with your plan. Let me explain. This vision became clear to me this morning; it was a moment when my destiny came before me.” He turned to Urith.

“Perhaps you remember such times in a battle? When you are struck down; expecting to receive that last death-stroke from your enemy while you are preparing for the end.” The old man was growing excited as he spoke.

Urith nodded at his hero. “Yes, I know what you mean. There is clarity at certain points in every battle, no matter the confusion and chaos that surrounds you.”

“That is exactly my experience. And now, let me explain how this fits in.” He paused again.

“First, your plan will never work as Satres is working to manipulate and control all that has been going on. He will only agree to meet with you to capture you and then destroy you.
